Mr. Wheeler is a familiar favorite among ballet fans in Sacramento, characterized by his unique sense of humor & stage persona. Originally from London, England he received his ballet training at The Royal Ballet School & Elmhurst School for Dance. Rex performed a wide range of repertoire with the Sacramento Ballet during his five-year residence, including works by: George Balanchine, Ron Cunningham, Septime Webre, Edwaard Liang & Trey McIntyre. He has created many new works for Sacramento Ballet’s ‘Beer & Ballet’ program during his tenure & was a founding member of the Capital Dance Project – presenting his iconic piece Confetti Rhapsody in 2015. In 2016 he participated in the New York Choreographic Institute where he collaborated with Julliard composer Jared Miller & The School of American Ballet. Rex has also choreographed for such well-known ensembles as Smuin Ballet, Richmond Ballet, Ballet Academy East, Utah Regional Ballet & Mid-Columbia Ballet. While Mr. Wheeler feels fortunate to have worked with so many organizations, he takes great pride that so many of his choreographic highlights have been generated in Sacramento. While he works primarily as a freelance choreographer in San Francisco, he also works & performs as a drag queen and as an actor and returns to Sacramento to visit friends as often as possible. |
