Sensory Friendly Dance Program
In addition to our annual multi-media performance Behind the Barre, we strive to make dance accessible to everyone in our community. In 2017, we launched our Sensory Friendly Dance Program offering dance classes and performances specifically designed for individuals with autism, or other developmental disabilities, unprecedented access live dance experiences. This outreach program is just one way that CDP furthers our mission to uplift the spirit of our community through the power of dance and shared experience.
Sensory Friendly Dance Performances
Our Sensory Friendly Dance Performance invites individuals living with autism, sensory, social and learning disabilities, and their families, to a live dance performance that is designed to make everyone feel accepted, safe and comfortable in an inclusive theater environment. Since 2017, we have presented this performance series for over 800 audience members, and thanks to many generous sponsors & donors we have been able to keep ticket prices at an affordable $5, as well as offer 300 free tickets to struggling families.
Sensory Friendly Dance Classes
Beginning in 2018, thanks to a California Art Council grant award, CDP developed introductory dance classes series for individuals with autism, or other related disabilities, to participate in the power of dance! The classes offer individuals of all ages the opportunity to express themselves in a judgement free zone, benefit from power of physical exercise, and the ability to socialize in a nurturing and inclusive environment. Classes are offered over a period of four weeks in the Summer months. Stay tuned for 2020 details.
